Artistic and Academic Advisor

Francesca Pionati is the Academic and Artistic Advisor for the Studio Program #7.

She has invited three international visiting tutors who will join the cohort in Rome on a monthly basis, and has been structuring a cycle of workshops and seminars in dialogue with them and the CASTRO team.

Francesca Pionati (1990) is an artist and researcher who collects meanings and images to resignify them through process-based and collaborative practices. She is interested in examining the tensions between the on-stage and the off-stage through moving images, experimental theatre, performance, publishing, and alternative pedagogies.
Since 2020 she is part of the artist duo VEGA with Tommaso Arnaldi. In 2021, Pionati co-founded the curatorial and research platform Iniziative di II, exploring the relationship between performativity, spaces of representation and political agency. From this experience, she co-initiated II Magazine, a publishing project intersecting critical thinking with various artistic and social practices. In 2022 Francesca joined the Dutch Art Institute. Recent exhibitions include MACRO, Museo MA*GA, Triennale Milano, Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Rome, Manifattura Tabacchi, Fondazione smART, Sant’Andrea de Scaphis, MEGA, Cassina Projects. She has partaken in the residency programs La Quarta Partete by Romeo Castellucci at Triennale Milano, Prender-si Cura at MATTATOIO, VISIO by Lo Schermo dell’Arte, and FONDAMENTA at Teatro India.
