SEMINARS STARTING NOVEMBER 2018
Every year CASTRO hosts a number of seminars organized and led by artists, scholars and professionals of the contemporary art scene.
Each seminar is dedicated to a specific theme, related to the research of the various speakers. The seminar is structured as a number of weekly or monthly meetings. Unlike a lesson, the seminar has a limited number of places and requires an active role of the participants.
The seminars offer tools to anyone who feels the need to update or expand his/her knowledge of the topics covered. Specific competence isn’t necessary.
The meetings are open to everyone, but booking is necessary. The events schedule and more details on contents will be published in November.
During the first term of the current year Castro will host the following seminars:
ANIMATION FOR ADULTS
curated by Flaminia Bonfiglio
November 2018 – June 2019
Animation has been used as a storytelling medium for decades. This seminar will approach animation eluding the most common works for children and rather focusing on the ones that one might not want to show the entire family.
CONTEMPORARY ART SYSTEM. STRATEGIES AND PROTAGONISTS
curated by Carla Chiarchiaro
November 2018 – June 2019
The seminar explores the contemporary art system and its functioning, analyzing strategies and protagonists, events and institutions.
EXPERIENCE OF PLACE
curated by Gabriele Giugni
January – February 2019
Through the use of lectures, readings, discussions and photography assignments, students will engage with the possibility of depicting the space as a subject.
ACCIDENTAL WRITING
Curated by Allison Grimaldi-Donahue
December 2018 – June 2019
A series of seminars and workshops on writing across language, particularly the Italian and English languages, and across genres, based on Catherine Malabou’s text The Ontology of the Accident.
