Ilaria Mancia is a curator, organizer, and dramaturg of interdisciplinary projects in visual and performing arts. She is interested in multidisciplinary and performative artistic research as a catalyst for new dynamics of knowledge, ecology of thought and production, and perceptual and relational transformations of artistic enjoyment. She has a strong interest in knowledge-sharing practices in both educational and community contexts. She was a curator at the Swiss Institute in Rome for Ora d’Oro / Golden Hour, the final event of the residency program “Roma Calling 2022/2023.” From late 2019 to 2022, she was a curator and head of educational projects, production residencies, and exhibition and performance events at Mattatoio in Rome, part of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo. In this context, she conceived and curated: Prender-si cura, an artistic research and production residency project; the Master in Performing Arts and Community Spaces PACS 2020-21 and the Master in Performing Arts MAP_PA 2022; and during the summers of 2020, Gaia-Thirst, and 2021 and 2022, re-creatures, projects involving video installations, environmental installations, performances, concerts, workshops, and talks, both indoors and outdoors at Mattatoio. In 2020, she curated the public program 4 PERFORMANCE at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome as part of the exhibition “Jim Dine,” which was transformed into the online project 4 PERFORMANCE RELOAD. She has worked with various national and international artists and theater and dance companies, imagining different performative and research formats and promoting their international projects, including Motus (IT), Agrupación Señor Serrano (ES), Cristina Kristal Rizzo (IT), Muta Imago (IT), Big Art Group (USA), OHT-Office for a Human Theatre (IT), in various international performing arts festivals and theaters, and has collaborated with independent spaces developing residency, training, and artistic projects. She graduated in Philosophy (Aesthetics) from the University of Bologna and obtained a Master’s in Science and Techniques of Performing Arts from the University of Parma. She is a lecturer in Techniques of Performance for Visual Arts at NABA Milan-Rome for the 2023/24 and 2022/23 academic years, in the Fashion Design BA and Visual Arts BA programs (courses in English and Italian). She was a consultant for the 2022/23 academic year for the MFA course at Transart Institute for Creative Research, Liverpool, UK.
